Over 2,000 farmers in Mula benefit from CAP support (03/11/2016)

The Minister of Water, Agriculture and Environment, Adela Martinez-Cacho, reported today that a total of 2,005 farmers in the municipality of Mula will benefit this year of support of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

"Every year come more than four million of CAP support to this locality, which shows its important agricultural weight," said the minister, who chaired today the first Local Council Agrario de Mula, with the mayor, Juan Jesus Moreno and the director General of Agricultural Funds, Carmen Garcia Frago.

Of the 37,000 hectares declared for CAP aid, a total of 31,000 are entitled to payment, representing more than 90 percent of hectares declared in the municipality of Mula receive aid.

In this regard, the Minister of Agriculture said that "come to the town annually 4.2 million euros of direct aid from the CAP".

Also in this municipality there are 6,500 hectares of organic farming, an activity which, as noted Martinez-Cacho, "is also here a very important role and, in fact, out of three almonds produced in Mula, one is green."

The town has a total of 19,000 hectares of almond production, accounting for 27.7 percent of the total produced in the Region of Murcia.

Beneficiaries of the advance of the CAP

3,400 farmers in the region of the advance beneficiaries of the CAP have begun this week to receive the aid.

This is 47 percent of total applicants outside the small farmers scheme.

The amount requested from the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund (FEGA) last Friday amounted to 7,673,708 euros, as an advance payment and basic assistance associated with sheep and goat farmers with special rights in 2014.
