Will begin shortly the works to restore the original layout of the Northwest Greenway passing through Mula (10/11/2015)

The action will allow enjoy one of the most interesting places in the area and includes views over the assets of the city of Mula

The Minister of Economic, Tourism and Employment Development, Juan Hernandez, announced today that it will start work on restoring the original layout of the Northwest Greenway as it passes through the site of the Ribera de los Molinos, in the municipality Mula.

Hernandez explained that "the performance will allow enjoy one of the most interesting places in the area, overlooking the step heritage of the city of Mula".

In addition, it specified that the goal is "to attract more walkers and cyclists to the area in the off season to energize, through the recovery and adaptation of the old railway line for sport and leisure uses in contact with nature."

The initiative was made possible thanks to the efforts made by the Consortium of Greenways in the Region of Murcia with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

The project, with an investment of 314,596 euros and will be fully implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, includes cleaning work, paving and reprofiling of slopes and signage, construction of low walls and installation of milestones to mark the sections.

Construction will begin before the end of this year and should be concluded within a period of three months.

The recovery of this route joins other measures promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment to promote sustainable and sports tourism in the region, and expand and improve the network of pilgrimage routes to reach the city of Caravaca de la Cruz, facing the Jubilee Year 2017.

In the same vein, Hernandez recalled that in 2017 the region will also open to the public the new Greenways del Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón, which will have a distance of over 65 kilometers and join the southern area Murcia Region Northwest.

Finally, the head of Tourism stressed that "the development of natural trails Greenways are one of the best instruments for sustainable development within the region and one of the most tourist modalities that reduce negative impacts on the environment ".

Redrawing

Currently, the Greenway runs in this area for an alternative route through the garden paths Mula, because the old route of the railway line between Murcia and Caravaca de la Cruz is held in part by the RM-516 road.

Since 2012, the Consortium of Greenways in the Region of Murcia and the city of Mula have worked on this project, in order to recover and fit the natural way in their original layout, and describe the necessary works for conditioning.
