Public Works agreement renews the grant of use of the Painted House Museum to host Christopher Gabarrón (02/04/2009)

Councilor José Ballesta said the renewal of the agreement states "the common interest in promoting the cultural heritage of the Region of Murcia, with the defense and promotion of art and culture"

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, signed today, accompanied by the mayor of Mula, Diego Cervantes, and artist Christopher Gabarrón Murcia, renewal of the agreement of transfer of use of the Painted House Museum to host Christopher Gabarrón Interpretation of Contemporary Culture, the City of Mula for a period of five years.

This palatial building was built in XVIII century and recently declared a Cultural Monument to category, is owned by the Institute for Housing and Land in the Region of Murcia, is part of the heritage of the region.

Councilor José Ballesta said that this agreement reflects "the common interest in promoting the cultural heritage of the region through advocacy and dissemination of art and culture, work that the Foundation made through Casa Pintada Museum Gabarrón Christopher ".

Also, the counselor said "the unique beauty of this building palatial historic Mula was sensitively restored by the Department of Housing Public Promotion of Murcia, enhancing its distinctive architectural and artistic value."

The painter and sculptor Christopher Mülenen Gabarrón, recognized by critics as one of the most representative artists of the last generations of Spanish artists, is the driver of the Painted House Foundation, created in 2004 through a collaboration agreement by the City Council of the town and the foundation that bears the name of the artist.

Among the objectives of the Painted House include the development of a strategic recovery plan and promote the cultural value of Mula, making the city a landmark for cultural tourism in the region, and the dissemination of the career of Christopher Gabarrón to from the exhibition of his work.

History of the Painted House

The Autonomous Community acquired Painted House, located on Calle San Francisco de Mula, in 1986, within the acquisition program in historic buildings for rehabilitation and conditioning.

The program included, along with the recovery of historic buildings, the possibility of building rooms and equipment that help to reuse the historic precincts "and give them back to life once had."

In this way, is also in charge of the restoration of the house painted, the construction of six houses of Public Advocacy in the back of the lot of the area had been demolished by a fire that took place in late of 70.

The investment made by the Institute for Housing and Land in the Region of Murcia was a total of 941,893 euros.

For the rehabilitation of the property conducted a documentation and research work prior to the proceedings, taking into account the graphic documents prior to partial demolition of the house.

In this way, it got a faithful reproduction of his original design, emphasizing the importance of the recovery of missing graffiti, unique in the Murcia area, the latter being an idiosyncrasy which conferred special housing and that made popularly known as Painted House.
