The Community will invest in the recovery of the Mula castle a total of 590,000 euros in the period 2017-2019, which "reaffirms the commitment of the regional government with the enhancement of the castle of Mula."
The Minister of Tourism and Culture, Miriam Guardiola, supervised today along with the architect responsible for the works, Isabel Betsué, the emergency actions that are taking place in the castle of Mula, aimed at consolidating the wall in the stretch of the albacara of this emblematic construction of the 16th century, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.
The head of Culture recalled that "the regional government is the only administration that has invested in the recovery of the castle", has also funded the Master Plan, which has prioritized the actions that are essential due to the risk situation involved for the wall, leaving for later the rest of the actions.
The Master Plan of the Mula castle is the essential tool for any future action of conservation and enhancement of this Renaissance monument of great value and importance within the fortifications of the national territory.
It is also the benchmark for any intervention by the central government within the framework of the National Plan of Fortifications of the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain, and increases the possibilities when it comes to obtaining aid to finance works of conservation of real estate of the Heritage Historical Spanish that are granted within the program of the '1.5 percent Cultural' of the Ministry of Development.
In this sense, the counselor Miriam Guardiola asked the central executive "to be involved in the enhancement of value of the fortification, and unite efforts between administrations around this emblem of regional heritage."
Performance
Once the damage has been identified, the emergency works being carried out by the General Directorate of Cultural Assets are aimed at reversing the danger of landslides and detachment of parts of the castle's calicostrated earth wall, as well as to minimize the future deterioration of the Wall.
In particular, the support terrain of the section of the wall and the filling of gullies will be made to improve the support surface lost today.
Likewise, the consolidation of displaced and fractured wall canvases will be carried out, which will be carried out by sewing with mechanical means and reconnection with execution of joint walls, for which the original factories will be maintained with their coverings, with which they will avoid refunds, and the unions will be made with compatible textural and chromatic treatment and with the originals.
The planned actions will be completed with the superior treatment of the wall canvas to avoid washing by atmospheric agents and improve the connection of the whole, the improvement of the rainwater evacuation system, ensuring its proper integration in the set, and vegetation cleanliness of the solar.
