Today, the diocesan priest José Gómez Rizo died at his home in Mula, at the age of 90.
His mortal remains are being veiled at the Mula funeral home and the funeral Mass, presided over by the Bishop of Cartagena, will be held tomorrow at the Parish of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, at 11:00 am.
José Gómez Rizo was born in Mula on October 12, 1928 and was baptized in the Parish of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, in his native town, on October 25 of the same year.
At age 15, he entered the Minor Seminary, later moving to the Major Seminary of San Fulgencio, where he carried out his ecclesiastical studies.
In addition, he graduated in Psychology.
He was ordained a priest on December 8, 1954, in the Cathedral of Murcia, by Bishop Ramón Sanahuja and Marcé, Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena.
During his priestly ministry he held the following positions:
- 1955-1957: Coadjutor of the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of La Union.
- 1957-1963: Treasurer of the Parish of San Isidro Labrador de Los Belones.
- 1963-1972: Rector of the Parish of La Purísima de Balsapintada.
- 1971-1972: Cura in charge of the Parish of Santa Cruz de Estrecho de Fuente Álamo.
- 1972-1997: Treasurer of the Immaculate Conception Parish of Alhama de Murcia.
- 1972-1997: Cura in charge of the Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows of Berro and Gebas.
- 1997-2002: Parish priest of La Purísima Concepción de Casas Nuevas.
- In 2002 he retires, establishing his residence in Mula.
He has also held other positions such as:
- Professor of Religion at the IES Valle de Leyva in Alhama de Murcia (1972-1992).
- Professor of Religion at the IES Miguel Hernández de Alhama de Murcia (1981-1988 and 1992-1993).
