[Dismantled an experienced criminal group dedicated to robbery in homes and businesses in the old town of Mula (22/01/2021)

Two of the detainees are also charged with the crimes of threats, coercion, injury and obstruction of justice, after threatening one of the injured with a machete to withdraw the complaint.

The operation, which is still open, has allowed the recovery of numerous objects, among which are three drums used in the traditional festivities of Los Tambores de Mula.

The investigation began when the Civil Guard learned of a notable increase in robberies, committed in homes and shops located in the old town of the Muleño municipality.

From that moment, the Benemérita and the Local Police of Mula established a series of surveillance devices in the area, to prevent future robberies and try to identify people related to these crimes.

Simultaneously, the agents collected traces and evidence from each of the criminal scenarios that were analyzed.

Among them, the images of video surveillance cameras of establishments and homes, in some of which a group of people appeared covered with ski masks and gloves.

Investigators found that the suspects were able to deactivate the premises' alarm systems to gain access with impunity and get their loot in a short space of time.

Once the necessary indications have been obtained, the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Mula have detained five men, of Spanish nationality and residents of Mula, with ages between 28 and 40 years, to whom they are attributed the alleged responsibility of at least nine crimes of robbery with force in homes and shops in the old town of the town.

Two of the detainees are also charged with the crimes of threats, coercion, injuries and obstruction of justice, when they appear related to the early morning assault on the home of one of the complainants who was threatened with a machete to withdraw the complaint.

Hierarchical criminal group According to the investigation, it is an organized group, with extensive criminal experience, which organized its criminal tasks to carry out the robberies in a systematic and efficient way.

In a previous phase, they carried out surveillance of businesses and homes to learn about security measures, such as alarm systems and bars; and the type of products they could steal.

Then, they took advantage of the night curfew to raid the buildings and move the stolen objects to the home of one of them, located in the same old town, which allowed them to hide them a few minutes after committing the robbery.

There they eventually kept them until they were released on the 'black market', trying to sell some of the stolen objects to local residents.

The 'Tympana' operation has culminated in the recovery of numerous objects, among which are three drums, of those used in the traditional festivities of Los Tambores de Mula, as well as the seizure of tools, balaclavas and utensils allegedly used by the now arrested in their criminal actions.

The five detainees, the recovered effects and the proceedings carried out have been made available to the investigating court number 2 of Mula, who has ordered the entry into prison of one of the detainees.

The investigation remains open to determine its possible relationship with other similar crimes.  function { ;(, , {});}
