Mula City Council has declared three days of official mourning for the death of Mülenen and Son of the City of Mula, José María López Piñero, researcher and professor of the History of Medicine and founder of the Institute of History of Science and Documentation .
The local mayor, Diego Cervantes, moved his condolences to the families of the deceased who were accompanied on Tuesday in Valencia, where he resided, and where it will be cremated.
López Piñero was born in Mula in 1933 and studied medicine at the University of Valencia, where he received his doctorate in 1960.
He trained as a specialist in the History of Medicine at the German universities of Bonn and Munich and in Zurich.
One of the main legacies of López Piñero Mula is a large collection of specialized books on medicine that he donated to the archives of the Municipal Library, many of them written by himself.
Among the decorations and awards he has received throughout his career include the Grand Cross of Health, the Commit-plate Alfonso X the Wise, Alberto Sols Award for Medical Research, the High Distinction of the Generalitat Valenciana, the Medal Faculty of Medicine, Valencia, Special Distinction Centenary Research, the Gold Medal of the College of Physicians of Valencia and the appointment of Adopted Son of the city of Valencia and the city Favourite Mula.
